ON the 6th June 1966 his camp was attacked whilst he was sleeping (10:20pm) A heavy mortar landed in his tent and threw him across the tent. His bed ended up in the corner as a heap of scrap metal. At first he didnât know he was hit and looked to pick up his rifle. He had shrapnel in both arms and chest. He had 27 stitches in 4 wounds. He didnât lose his sight right away but had damaged hearing. It was only in his 40âs that he was registered blind.Pictures by Richard Cannon
