BLIND VETERAN - Sargent Mike Tetley, 92 is the oldest blind veteran that has lost his sight during a conflict. He served in Kenya in 1953 and lost his sight on the 6th February 1954 into a 7 month tour where he saw action pretty much every day. After a shoot out at a railway line in thick bush, they troop Was to split up in threes, to search for any more Mau Mau terrorists. A handgranade was thrown at him and for a split second he wasnât sure whether he should pick it up to throw back or to jump. He chose the later and ended up 15 feet away, laying on the ground, several terrorist came to finish him off but for the heroism of Regiton of the Samburu tribesman, who shot and killed the men and saved his life.
