Billy Childish
Amateurs are the ones who make the real breakthroughs
They are the heroes
I’m much more interested in being a hero than being a professional….
It’s in my romantic nature
Billy Childish 2011
Billy Childish is an Artist, Poet, author and musician. And has been described as “one of the most outstanding and often misunderstood, figures on the British art scene.
I met Billy many years ago when shooting for The Times and most recently I had been making a short film with him. He paints every Monday without fail and can sometimes paint more than one painting on each visit.
I found this quote from a short film made with him in 2011 and it really resonates with me.
I class myself as a professional photographer but try not to rely on past shoots to dictate my workflow and try to keep a fresh frame of mind when shooting for clients. But the pictures I take for my personal projects are the ones that really release me creatively and you could say these have a amateur slant to my photography as its only for the photography. Although I wouldn’t call myself a hero by any sense of the word.
Although one thing is clear is that I would still be taking pictures with the same energy even if there was no payment.
I love photography.
Photographers Breakdown:
I think that with all professional creative disciplines, there is a sense of making strides into the unknown or never tried before to further the art but 99.9 percent would all work for nothing if they could and you would describe that ethos as a romantic idea.
