Maya Angelou
Mary Angelou was an American memorist, popular poet and civil rights activist. Week 30/22
I came across her name when I watching a program after channel surfing about her life. A real Inspiration! and quickly had to print out this particular quote which resonates with me.
The quote doesn't read from 'the excitement is' I think I added that because its such a positive message. It also reminds me of when I obtain a moment in a shoot when I feel I am hitting the sweet spot and that feeling is what drives me to continue to pursue a career as a profession photographer. It's such a wonderful feeling!
Also I see the quote as something to carry through with you when trying to reach out to creatives that commission work and also when on a shoot whether its just a one on one with the subject or whether you are part of a team all trying to create something special.
If people can feed off this vibe then all the better.
Photographers Breakdown
Not to sort of survive:
Rejection is part of the daily life as a photographer whether it be that you were suitable for an assignment or more than likely the tumbleweeds of non replies from potential clients (shame on you!) don't let define who you are as a photographer. Take every rejection as a stepping stone to success (zed nelson) and treat every approach to a new client as if its your first and don't carry that baggage from past rejections. let that weight of being down trodden fall away.
to thrive with some passion:
To be successful in anything take dedication and a feeling that there is nothing else apart from your goal to be a successful photographer with that attitude and commitment and excitement for your craft you can only succeed. having a passion for what you do gives you an energy to reach your goals.
some compassion, some humour and some style:
Remember everyone are trying their best and are on their own journey so be aware of this at all times. Humour relieves tension. if you are doing a job then the lightness of emotion brings people together and gives a positive atmosphere. Therefor it can only benefit your images. Style is something that is not easily achieved for most. So, keep shooting as much as you can. The more you shoot the better you become and the better you become the more a style will immerge.
